Fish BoilsAbout Us

An evening Fish Boil at the Old Post Office Restaurant is

The Lake Michigan whitefish is caught by local fishermen and prepared outside over a roaring open fire.  Small potatoes and onions are boiled first and the fish is then dropped into the steaming kettle.

When the oils from the whitefish rise to the top of the kettle, kerosene is added to the flames creating the "boil over," spilling the fish oils over the side and signaling that the catch is ready to serve.

Come early and watch as Boil Master Earl Jones creates the "boil over" !

The menu for the traditional feast includes:
Steaks of Fresh Whitefish, Small Red Potatoes, Little White Onions, Homemade Lemon, Pumpkin and Rye Breads, and Fresh Baked Door County Cherry Pie.

Chicken or ribs are available for those who prefer an alternative to fish, and hot dogs or chicken tenders are in reserve for children.

The Fish Boil offers delicious history, too. The Scandinavians are credited with bringing it to the county more than one hundred years ago. The Old Post Office specializes in carrying on this tradition.

Both indoor and outdoor  seating can be arranged, and groups are welcome.
